Patricia A Fenati
CANDIDATE FOR THE OFFICE OF
House of Delegates, District 14
NOVEMBER 2, 2010 ELECTION
2010 Maryland General Election
CANDIDATE STATEMENT
My name is Patricia Ann Fenati. I have been married to my husband Sam for 41 delightful and adventurous years. We raised our three wonderful children in Damascus where we have lived for 37 years. I am a grandmother of two and another coming. I am running for office because I am very concerned about the state of our state!
In 2007 our representatives imposed on our state the LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN MARYLAND HISTORY The purpose of this large increase was to raise an extra $1.4 billion each year for state government supposedly to cover upcoming deficits. But they went on to spend even more. In fact, they needed billions in Federal “stimulus” to cover their spending.
A tax was imposed on millionaires. Go figure… many millionaires left the state or changed their residency to a home in another state. We have lost over 1.4 billion in wealth in the last four years. Montgomery County was badly hit by that wealth flight. The state tried to get more of their money and instead lost all of their revenues.
Ask the current party in power, Did you spend our money wisely? We worked hard for the money you take in taxes. We are taxed every time we earn money, spend money, (the extra sales tax hurts both retailers and customers,) buy property (new property transfer taxes hurts home buyers, sellers and agents,) and the taxes on utilities hurt everyone. Even when we die we are taxed more than most other states. No wonder financial consultants advise people of wealth to move out of the state … and they do.
You raised the state's corporate tax. How did that work? Maryland’s tax structure is not friendly to business, in fact According to the Business & Accounting Directory, Maryland was among the 10 worst states in 2009
in regard to tax climate. Virginia is Number One. Do we really wonder why we lost Northrop Grumman, with all its jobs, to Virginia?
OK, we need all these taxes because we have to help the poor and those who don’t have the jobs that are not being created in this state, right? … In fact Maryland State Department of Human Resources is violating the law concerning the failure to distribute public benefits to poor families The state is failing to provide food stamps and other public benefits as promptly as federal and state law requires. More than 7,100 individuals and families were overdue for medical assistance and more than 4,100 food stamp requests were delayed past the 30 day deadline, while thousands of needy Maryland families have waited weeks longer for assistance
Our bureaucracies are not functioning correctly and no one is watching over them.
These are just a few of the reasons why we need new voices in Annapolis. If we keep doing the same things we will keep getting the same result! Let’s end the one party monopoly that speaks (with few exceptions) with one voice. Let’s get some new ideas to Annapolis!
Vote for Pat Fenati, a New Voice.
